In the last month there has been an influx of subscribers. This is such a mood booster to me, as I live here in the outer archipelago of Substack. As a thank you note I made you a video. It’s a snapshot of the most beautiful places I’ve lived. The pictures express who I am. Here, enjoy! After you’ve watched it, please scroll down and read more about me and what I do here. Then please share a bit of your thoughts in the comments!
“A person of your century: Great persons are of their time. Not all were born into a period worthy of them, and many so born failed to benefit by it. Some merited a better century, for all that is good does not always triumph. Fashions have their periods and even the greatest virtues, their styles. But the philosopher, being ageless, has one advantage: Should this not prove the right century, many to follow will.”
― Baltasar Gracián, The Art of Worldly Wisdom: A Pocket Oracle
I started this Substack in 2021. Too early? I suspect I have been too early with several things related to technology, sort of standing on the surfboard into the future — trying to catch the next wave and next.
So when I logged in today it was with deep gratitude when I noticed I now have 400+ followers. Thank you for finding it worthwhile to read my work. Especially now, when patience and pacing are super powers.
Cabinet of Curiosities is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
My Substack is an islet in the outer reaches of the archipelago in the northern reaches of Substack. Or another scenery: I am like someone in an old Western movie who moved to a valley next to a mountain, far away and only get the occasional Pony Express. And the fellow wanderers in the outskirts of Substack — you! Thank you to both new and old subscribers!

What have I produced that might be of interest to you?
Among you there are two main categories of readers. Here are a few of your favorite pieces. If you are new here, please browse through these things to get a better look at my stuff.
I wrote a book called Aubade. I also wrote two anthologies, No End Code and Errante.
For the Essay Readers.
The Return of the Letter — my attempt to get us to handwrite letters again actually gained a fair amount of interest and I produced handwritten letters to all who subscribed to this project. [4/2023]
The color of butter — my earliest dream memory and my lifelong search for that yellow color. That resembles the color of butter. [1/2023]
On Death — thoughts and reflections on what it means to be in the presence of death. My personal perspectives. [12/2022]
For the Sci-Fi Readers.
Aubade — a pet project of mine. A serialized sci-fi novel I plan to publish on Amazon in the near future. Lots of nods to ‘80s TV shows, sci-fi movies with lots of blinking lights and great characters, and a bit of romance and action too. Ripley and friends in space.
Errante — my second sci-fi anthology is available for you on Amazon. Many of the stories were first published here.
Bergtagen — for some reason this story became one of the more popular stories here. More fantasy than sci-fi, and rooted in the Finnish archeological world.
For the Omnivore.
The best TV-series you haven’t seen — and why you must return to the ‘80s for that extra quality TV-show. Trust me.
AI and you in the near future — you will need this in order to swim out of the technological riptide.
Classic Movies for Beginners — this is one to bookmark. I am somewhat of a classic movie nerd, and here I have assembled the essential movies for you if you’d like a decent education in classic cinema.
TO DO: Please share my Substack with your friends and encourage them to also subscribe. This is a one woman show and I am grateful for each and everyone of my readers, and especially those who pay for a subscription! If you can, please consider buying me a coffee using the Venmo button.
And most importantly: thank you for being here. It means a lot to me.
