Thank you. You are reading these words right now, as I type them here. And I am grateful that you decided to visit The Cabinet of Curiosities, located on the outskirts of Substack. I sometimes write about myself. Today I write about you, because I notice you here, now. I don’t see you but you leave a little trail, and it brings me joy to know that you trotted here and looked around in my garden. You are very welcome here.
Perhaps you, like I, enjoy wandering off towards the horizon, or taking that trail there in between the oak trees? Perhaps you don’t, like I, enjoy the hustle and bustle of the inner city Substack?
Perhaps you simply enjoy reading something a bit more… human? Something that has a waft of the pre-internet days but still with toes firmly buried in today or even tomorrow?
Perhaps you didn’t intend to meander this way, but you did, and you noticed something on the ground. A feather, or a sea shell, or a micro chip. And it made you think of your childhood, or teenage years, or that time you were miserable at work when you were 21 and thought that nothing will ever happen to you. But something did happen.
Perhaps you know me, and read this out of politeness. Thank you. It also counts!
Perhaps you remember one place in your life that had a door knob that felt superlatively welcoming? Grab hold of it now, in your memory, and feel its texture and temperature. Hold your hand still and smell the air. Is there perhaps a bit of coffee somewhere in there? And freshly baked bread? Yes, and aged air that the old wooden beams of the house around you is breathing on you. It welcomes you, you know. The house knows your steps. They reverberate in the floor boards and send shivers of joy up the old timber beams. Now it is time to turn the handle. Inside you are welcome.
This. This is my Substack. If you have read this far and feel a connection, please do consider subscribing — and please consider a paid subscription. Right now I have a 40 % off deal, because that’s how I roll. It will allow me to spend more time writing and creating here in The Cabinet of Curiosities. Paid subscribers will be able to collaborate with me on projects, and they will have access to subscriber only posts and podcasts. Yes, I am working on developing a podcast here and I would love to collaborate with you, especially if you enjoy similar topics that you find here in my Substack. Well, who does stuff like this?
I told you this place is called Cabinet of Curiosities for a reason. This is what I do. I create things and sometimes I like to see what happens. I’m a one-woman show and have self-funded and self-published this book on Amazon. Here you can read more about the how and why I wrote this book. Follow my author’s page!
What other things do you do?
Here’s a starter kit for you. Follow me and let me know that you’re following me and I’ll (most likely) follow you back.
I belong to the Soaring Twenties Social Club (and so should you!)
Come on in and join The Cabinet of Curiosities! Oh, and please leave a comment and tell my readers what you enjoy about this place. Why do you read my Substack? What would you like to see more of in this space?
Thank you — and that’s a great picture of Brian Donlevy!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful world! :)
