"What I haven’t told you yet is that out of all my senses, my sense of smell is possibly one of the most acute." - This reminds me of a book I read a long time ago about a man who made perfumes in Paris and could detect the slightest smells from across the city.

The one smell I can't handle is the smell of whatever those things and chemicals are that they use in your hair in a beauty shop. I'll take a cow field over that. In fact, a cow field smells nice, earthy and natural.

Hi Victor! Perhaps I was a perfume maker in another life! I also had a knack for describing wines and detecting notes and aromas back in the California days.

I wonder if. you mean the chemical that is put in hair during permanents? It's very pungent!

And having grown up next to a farm I can attest to cow fields smelling nice! The only frustration was if the farmer was spreading dung as fertilizer on the fields nearby while we were hanging out laundry to dry! And that happened a lot!

Yes, I think that's the one, the hair perm chemical. I grew up with my Mom doing it and learned early I didn't like it. I've lived on a farm for a while and do like those smells!

I just thought of another really disgusting stench combo that I've experienced here in Florida: driving behind an asphalt truck while driving past a water treatment plant! Almost collapsed!

Skimping: Demeter.

Fig & Lotus Blossom.

Oh I loved Tresor! I used to work for Chanel and No5 was always my scent. I wear a cruelty free copy these days. I like lots of classics tbh, the original men's Eau Savage by Dior is another. I also loved one called Eden which had an amazing bottle. My mum wears Safari by Ralph Lauren and it really suits her. I always found scents worked differently on different skins types. They would enhance base notes or not last as long depending on who was wearing it.

Hi Susan! Gosh, wasn't Tresor the best (back then, haha)?

I love to read about your perfume memories, and how neat that you worked for Chanel!

I am contemplating trying one of the classics, finally.

Exactly - some scents are just perfect for one person while it doesn't match someone else.

Are you at all into Byredo and Diptyque? I hate to fall into the mimetic desire of wearing them, but at the same time I am intrigued by the scents.

I tend to favour more single or double note scents these days. I have a roll on Rose and Honeysuckle thing from a high street shop, that's my everyday type.

I see that I have some homework to do! This sounds so interesting, and I know very little about the world of perfumes and layers of scents. I have noticed more roll ons coming back. I remember them from my early childhood when my mom had some roll on musks. Roll on rose and honeysuckle sound lovely. I must investigate!
