How lovely that you looked at such a commonplace item as a button and made it into a beautiful, poignant story, Minna. I love these kinds of stories. My nana was a dressmaker and I remember she had lots of fascinating buttons, but I don't recall that she kept them in a tin; she might have; she did keep them in a collection. I save buttons, too, but they're all over the place. I must get more organized. Thank you for this.

I have my gran’s button … oh wait, it’s a jewelry box … and I crammed as many of my mother-in-law’s buttons into it from her two tins as I could before we moved.

Leanne, your button collection is royalty level! They’re living like kings and queens in that magnificent jewelry box!

I shall unearth it for a photo in the next couple of days and tag you in the Note.

we sorted all the buttons one Christmas instead of the puzzle we usually made.

The world needs more button sorting at Christmas! Love that you did this.

I’m not sure where it is but I have my mother’s button tin. When I find it I’ll join.

It will appear when the time is right! You’re already a member and a very treasured one!

I have no idea why I keep buttons, but yes, I had that Nanna too so it must be in my genes.

Mine are colour coded and kept in little zip lock bags, I've got quite the haberdashery. From that you might surmise that I am an organised person, but you'd be wrong. My buttons are literally the only colour coded or organised thing in my life. I look at them occasionally, thinking that when I retire I will come up with some craft project and put them to good use. Do I usually do craft? Not really. I'm never going to be anyone's Nanna, so I will not be handing them on for anyone else to play with or ponder over either. So why do I keep them? I think the answer maybe lies in my struggles with all our waste and pollution. I don't like the thought of these lovely, tactile pieces of plastic ending up in a furnace. I think I'd save all the world's discarded buttons if I could. Glad to know there are more of you out there. :-)
